4 great outdoor workout spots in Wauwatosa

When the weather is nice in Wisconsin, it’s time to lace up your sneakers and take your workout outside. We talk a lot about how regular physical exercise is good for our bodies, minds, and spirits. By taking your workout outside, you can multiply the benefits; studies show that spending time in nature decreases stress and leads to enhanced feelings of wellbeing. Additionally, sun exposure is the best way for your body to create Vitamin D, an essential nutrient for people living in northern climates. Just don’t forget your SPF!

At Kennedy Chiropractic, we love helping individuals of all ages stay healthy and active. In addition to expert chiropractic and pain management services, we offer expert guidance on creating a holistic healthy lifestyle to ensure you feel your best for decades to come. Our hometown of Wauwatosa has plenty of phenomenal spots for an outdoor workout – here are some of our favorites.

Hart Park

Location: 7300 Chestnut Street

If your idea of a great workout is playing sports, Hart Park (named after Charles Hart, founder of the City of Wauwatosa) is the perfect outdoor workout spot for you. The impressive 52 acres of parkland boast tennis courts, a soccer and turf football field, a skate park, miles of walking/running trails, a track, and even a splash pad for little ones on hot summer days. If you’re hungry or thirsty after your workout, you’re only steps from the Wauwatosa village bars and restaurants.

Hoyt Park

1800 N Swan Boulevard

Another fantastic recreation destination for the whole family is Hoyt Park. Most Wauwatosa locals have spent more than a few summer days cooling off at the pool, a great spot for getting in a water workout while your kids have the time of their lives. Hoyt Park is also home to a soccer field, sand volleyball courts, and the Forked Aster hiking trail, a lovely 3.2 mile loop that partially aligns with the Menomonee river.

Oak Leaf Trail

Various entry points

The Oak Leaf Trail is an impressive 125 mile, multipurpose trail system that stretches throughout a good portion of Milwaukee County, including winding its way through beautiful Wauwatosa. The paved trail is perfect for walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading. The Menomonee River Line section of the trail follows the Little Menomonee River Parkway through Hoyt Park, while the Kinnickinnic Line allows users to travel from Wauwatosa to Milwaukee and the Root River Line connects Wauwatosa with Franklin.

County Grounds Park

Center of County Grounds, various entry points

Calling all nature lovers – if you haven’t checked out County Grounds Park, now is the time! In addition to an impressive 3.6 mile hiking trail loop, the park is home to an old growth forest named Sanctuary Woods, innumerable species of plants and animals, rolling hills, wetlands and creeks, and even a view of downtown Milwaukee. History buffs will enjoy getting their steps in while exploring the site of several defunct medical institutions, with plenty of artifacts to add to the mystery of the site. No matter what brings you there, you’re going to have an unforgettable time at County Grounds Park.
