Dr. Corinne A. Kennedy, Wauwatosa, Q&A on Chiropractic

Welcome to Dr. Corinne A. Kennedy’s chiropractic office located just west of Highway 45 on North Avenue and 115th Street in Wauwatosa. Kennedy Chiropractic is ready to accept new patients. To find out if chiropractic is right for you, let’s ask Dr. Kennedy a few questions about chiropractic care.

What is Chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is a natural hands-on approach to spinal care based on an adjustment that interacts with the spine and nervous system as well as the surrounding muscles.

Are chiropractors doctors?
Chiropractors are not medical doctors; they are doctors of chiropractic but go through just as much schooling. Educational requirements are among the most stringent of any healthcare profession.

What types of pain do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors are known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain, and overall body pain. They also treat injuries and disorders involving the muscles, ligaments, and joints. Pretty much any type of symptom related to our spine or extremities, chiropractors can treat.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is the learned skill of using a specific hands-on force in a precise direction applied to a joint that is locked up or not moving properly. The purpose of this safe and natural procedure is to eliminate interference in the nervous system involving spinal function and overall health.

Do adjustments hurt?
A chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled hands-on technique that rarely causes discomfort. Chiropractic methods use minimal force and gentle pressure. Many patients feel instant relief after their treatments. It’s really no different than starting an exercise program—sometimes it can take getting used to.

Why do adjustments sometimes make a popping sound?
The noises you might hear when being adjusted are joints releasing tiny pockets of air. A chiropractic adjustment does not affect the bones on either side of a joint; it affects the connected tissue that holds the joint together. That is why you hear a popping sound.

Will a chiropractic adjustment completely remove my pain?
Each patient is different. Depending on what your condition is, sometimes relief is felt immediately. Other times, it can take a few adjustments to feel relief. We will discuss your progress along the way and always communicate on how you’re feeling.

Is it safe if pregnant women get adjusted?
Many pregnant mothers find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. I always consider what is safest for mother and baby.
